Car paintings- how I got started
I started with car paintings when I was around 16 years old. Until that time I hadn't really been painting much at all. What got me started was actually a school project, my art-teacher told my class that we were going to have to choose a theme that we wanted to work with during the whole semester. Since I was interested in cars, my theme was car paintings.

After getting very encourage continuing with this newly found hobby of mine I started to paint at home, but only cars of course! Still it wasn't until I sold my first car painting, which was a Ferrari 512 painting that I really got into painting and drawing cars. But it wasn't about selling prints or paintings that pushed me to go on, no it was the encouragement I got from doing it. I mean here I was doing something just for fun and someone was willing to pay for it, that was pretty neat, especially being around 17 or so.

Over the years I have been painting lots of different cars, like Ferrari Enzo, F50, F40, 250 GTO, Porsche 911 Turbo, BMW M3, Lamborghini Murcielago, Countach, Diablo, Gallardo, Mercedes SLR, McLaren F1 and the list goes on and on!! But on the last couple of years I have learned to appreciate other type of cars, like the pre war racing cars, classic Saabs, Cadillac's and many more. I think if I wouldn't have started painting cars I would never have developed such a broad love for all kinds of cars that I have today.

Is it always fun to paint cars? Lots of people have asked me this type of question and the answer is simply yes. The whole progress is what is so fun and interesting, to see the painting develop little by little is always very nice. Still drawing / painting cars isn't always "a walk in the park", it can be very frustrating when you don't get it right and just spend hours and hours of fine-tuning it and still it looks bad. But in the end the result makes the frustrating hours spent all worth it!

Well that I a little bit of how I got started with this great hobby.

American muscle car drawings
Even though I am from Europe I cannot help but loving the good old muscle cars! I started drawing muscle cars a couple of years ago and I love the challenges this drawings gives me! Getting a muscle car drawing right is not always very easy though.

One thing that I often have a hard time while sketching muscle cars is to get the proportions right. These classic car shapes are quite complicated to get right, as you might have experienced from drawing them yourself.
After many screwed up muscle car sketches I am finally getting the hang of it. My advice is to just focus on the general lines of the shape. And then just try sketching them, and don't be afraid of redoing it until you are satisfied.

Doing Camaro drawings is always fun, they are quite challenging because of the shape, but the final result is usually worth the extra work put into them.
I also enjoy doing Mustang drawings, it is something about the older ones that really scream "drive me"! To make a good Mustang sketches usually takes me around 5-10 hours to get them to the level I'm happy with. While just to sketch the general shape of a mustang shouldn't take longer than 1-2 hours.
Another car I enjoy to sketch is the Firebird, they look so aggressive and to get that rawness into the drawing is very challenging but fun! Firebird drawings are quite popular to draw.

My best advice on how to improve your car drawings is simply to spend more time on them. For example if you are not fully satisfied with the front lights, don't just continue with the drawing and hoping that the lights will get better by some magical touch! No, look at the lights and don't give up on them until you are fully satisfied with them, then move on to the next part of the car drawing.

If you love Muscle Car drawings you should get your favorite pencil and sit down with a clean sheet of paper and just relax and start sketching your favorite muscle car. Don't give up to quickly, just focus on the general shape of the outward lines of the car and you will soon see how the sketch is becoming better. Remember patience is the key to success when drawing a muscle car.

Ferrari drawings
Ferrari, just the name gets me excited! Ferrari paintings is something I have done since many years' back and I never get tired of it. For me drawing a Ferrari is like physically experiencing the car as if it was right there in front of me. I learn more about the lines of the car and see lines that I would normally not notice when just seeing a picture of a Ferrari.

My favorite Ferrari to draw is probably the Enzo or the 250 GTO, both very different cars from different eras.
Doing a Ferrari Enzo sketches is always exciting, because this car is so extreme and looks like no other. And because of the sharp edges it makes it a very challenging car to draw.
While a Ferrari 250 GTO painting is very hard to draw correctly because of the beautiful curves this car has. Then again the reward of pulling it off is totally worth the frustrating hours getting those lines right!
A Ferrari F40 drawing is also very special to do, this car is so raw and it's always a challenge to get that rawness to come alive in the drawing.

My best advice on how to improve your car Ferrari drawings is simply to spend more time on them. For example if you are not fully satisfied with the front lights, don't just continue with the drawing and hoping that the lights will get better by some magical touch! No, look at the lights and don't give up on them until you are fully satisfied with them, then move on to the next part of the car drawing.

If you love Ferrari you should get your favorite pencil and sit down with a clean sheet of paper and just relax and start sketching your favorite Ferrari. Don't give up to quickly, just focus on the general shape of the outward lines of the car and you will soon see how the Ferrari sketch is becoming better. Remember patience is the key to success when drawing a Ferrari.
